Description
This one-of-a-kind Spyderco Ladybug began as a compact, high-performance K390 pocket knife. Its original scales were removed and replaced with a completely handmade handle crafted from 21-layer sterling silver and copper mokume gane.
Mokume gane—meaning “wood-grain metal”—is created by bonding alternating layers of metal and carefully manipulating the resulting billet to reveal its internal pattern. The flowing lines visible throughout this handle are part of the material itself rather than a surface decoration. No two pieces of mokume gane can develop exactly the same pattern.
Each scale was fabricated and fitted by hand in my Omaha studio, with careful attention paid to preserving the knife’s original proportions and functional lockback design. More than 40 hours of work went into producing the mokume-gane material and completing the handle.
The warm copper and bright sterling-silver layers will continue to develop character with handling and age. The exact knife pictured is the knife you will receive.

Care:
Keep the knife clean and dry and follow Spyderco’s recommended care practices for the K390 blade. The copper and sterling silver may naturally darken or develop a patina over time. Avoid abrasive cleaners unless you intentionally wish to alter that finish.
